Mr. Calaor is a microbiologist with vast experience in field outbreak investigation, clinical diagnostics,
and vaccine discovery of emerging viral zoonoses. He built his professional skills by working with
renowned scientists in the field of public health zoonoses mainly focusing in technology transfer and
laboratory preparedness of RITM to emerging biothreats early on.

He is the previous head of the Rabies Research and Special Pathogens Laboratory of RITM, the
laboratory he established that will mirror the special pathogens unit of the CDC USA where he was
trained. The laboratory was the first to confirm by molecular detection of SARS-CoV-1 in the
Philippines. His efforts echoed at the peak of first SARS-CoV-1 response and various surveillance
studies on Ebola Reston, Nipah virus, rabies diagnostics and other zoonotic pathogens, for the
Philippine Association of Medical Technologist (PAMET) acknowledged his contributions in research
in the Philippines to be the recipient of prestigious Crisanto Almario Award for research.

He has contributed to numerous publications related to laboratory diagnosis and surveillance of
zoonotic pathogens in the Philippines. Currently, he is a scientific consultant for laboratory
developed tests (LDT) on syndromic diagnostics and operational processes to start-up laboratories.
He also serves as consultant to biosafety and biosecurity projects of RITM BRMO of the Philippine
Department of Health.
